One request for HR support that turned into a full operations overhaul.
A retail and distribution business came to SutraSarthi to outsource HR. As we fixed that, the same structural gaps showed up across the business, so the engagement grew to streamline Finance, HR, Procurement and Sales into one connected back office.
The challenge
The business first needed help running HR: hiring, payroll, compliance and day-to-day people operations that were eating management time and still slipping.
As SutraSarthi took HR over, the same root problems, manual processes, unclear ownership, and no single source of truth, showed up in Finance, Procurement and Sales. Each function worked in isolation, so a delay in procurement quietly became a problem in sales, and finance only found out at month-end.
Fixing HR alone would have left the business running on three other shaky legs, so the engagement expanded to address the operating model as a whole.
What we built
SutraSarthi began by outsourcing and running HR end to end, then rebuilding the underlying processes, hiring, onboarding, payroll and compliance, so the function could run cleanly and predictably.
From there we streamlined Finance (reporting and controls), Procurement (sourcing and approval workflows) and Sales (pipeline and order flow), giving each a clear owner and a defined process instead of ad hoc handling.
Most importantly, we connected them so information moves across the back office, an order in Sales flows to Procurement and Finance without re-entry, and leadership sees the whole picture from shared, current data rather than four disconnected views.
The results
What changed.
Hiring, payroll and compliance handled and systemised, off the leadership's plate.
Finance, Procurement and Sales work off shared, current information, not separate spreadsheets.
A delay in one function is visible to the others before it becomes a problem.
A single team owning the operational backbone end to end.
Tools we used
We asked for help with HR and ended up with a business that finally runs on systems.
FAQ
Questions, answered.
Can an HR outsourcing engagement expand into other functions?
Yes. In this retail and distribution business, SutraSarthi started with HR, and because the same root problems existed in Finance, Procurement and Sales, the engagement grew to streamline all four into one connected back office.
What does streamlining Finance, HR, Procurement and Sales involve?
Each function gets a clear owner and a defined process instead of ad hoc handling, and the functions are connected so information flows between them, for example an order in Sales reaches Procurement and Finance without re-entry.
Why streamline back-office functions together instead of one at a time?
Because the functions are interdependent. A delay in procurement becomes a sales problem and a finance surprise. Streamlining them together, with shared data, removes the cross-function surprises that fixing one function in isolation leaves behind.
Does SutraSarthi run the functions or just advise?
Both. We run HR as an outsourced function and rebuild the processes behind it, and we streamline and systemise the others, so you get execution and a connected operating model, not just recommendations.
